Extreme Couponing Tips

Extreme Couponing is an extreme sport that combines savvy shopping skills with couponing in an attempt to save as much money as possible while accumulating the most groceries. The concept of “Extreme Couponers” was first mentioned by The Wall Street Journal on March 8, 2010 in an article entitled “Hard Times Turn Coupon Clipping Into the Newest Extreme Sport“. ABC Nightline followed with a March 25, 2010 segment of “Extreme Couponing Competition: How Far Can $50 Go?“. One contestant paid $50.61 for groceries that retailed for $118.84. Another spent $30 on groceries that retail for $500.

According to Inmar, in 2009, more than 367 billion coupons were distributed and 3.3 billion redeemed across the nation with an average face value of $1.44. This translates to a less than 1% redemption rate of more than $528 trillion dollars worth of coupon savings. The grocery coupons you need are out there, you just need to connect with people who have them.

Here’s are some Extreme Couponing techniques to help you save money:

  1. Clip ALL the coupons from your weekly circulars and Sunday newspaper. It’s always a good policy to clip all coupons because an item may go on sale in the future and you can trade your coupons with other couponers for the ones you do want. eCoupons.com plans to launch an Extreme Couponing grocery coupon trading service next week to help shoppers connect with each other and swap coupons.

  2. Study the weekly supermarket sales and compare this to your coupon inventory.

  3. Know your supermarket’s coupon policy:

    1. Are expired coupons accepted?
    2. Can you use 10 coupons for 10 of the same items?
    3. Can you stack a manufacturer coupon with a store coupon?
    4. Are there double and triple coupon days?
    5. Does your store accept competitors coupons?
    6. How are coupon overages applied to the final bill?

These are the most frequently used techniques for reducing a grocery bill significantly and how some shoppers are even entitled to cash! Since supermarket policies are constantly changing, call before you shop and ask the questions above. Make sure you write down the name of the person at the supermarket who gave you the information.

  4. The local Sunday newspaper is an excellent source for grocery coupons. Save 50% or more on local newspaper home delivery. Apparently, Extreme Couponing led to to increased thefts of newspapers simply for its coupons.

  5. Coupons, individual or booklets from Red Plum, Smart Source and P&G, can be bought on eBay. Although coupon manufacturers place restrictions on coupons limiting their transferability to ensure the coupons stay within the targeted market, these restrictions are not universal and are difficult and/or costly to enforce. Since most coupons are not allowed to be sold, the fee is considered to be for the time and effort put into cutting out the coupons. Do not pay for electronic coupons. See below:

  6. Red Plum Coupons

I use a 3 ring binder with baseball card protectors (picked up at Hobby store) and made dividers for approx 35 categories. I buy multiple papers and hit recycle bins. I also exchange with mom and daughter we all don’t use the same products. Always look in paper before purchasing though, becuase unfortunately people are stooping very low and stealing the inserts (may carma bite them in the a….)LOL I hope this helps. also a very good webpage is Krazy coupon lady, her sight is awesome. good luck to you.

Where I can get them?
What magazines or news paper?
Are they expire or I can keep aa much aa I want?
How can I do it?

Please!, I will really appreciate if somebody help me with this wonderful bless idea.

Thank you very much.

the “all you” magazine” is a good source for coupons they are typically filled with them. recycle bins are a good source, trading with friends and family. I also suggest The krazy coupon lady webpage, she does alot of the foot work or brainstorming for you. good luck to you. I have been doing this for over 20 years it is well worth the time it takes.

I have visited ecoupons.com and coupons network which you have mentioned here, and I have printed many coupons from these sites sense yesterday. I have run into a problem thought. Not all of the coupons that they show available are printing. When I try to click on them again some say I have already reached my limit even though they did not print. Others printed and the printer is working properly. The ones that are still available still wont print even if I click just on them. Is there a solution to my problem?

Reply

Lisa June 11, 2011 at 5:55 pm

if you print coupons from an online site, try copying them on with your color printer.

Reply

Janet June 19, 2011 at 9:46 pm

I ran into the same problem not to long ago with Angel Soft Bath Tissue. It showed as me that it was transferring to my printer but nothing came printed out (it happened twice) then it said that I had used my limit of printing of that coupon. I was not happy at all because I really wanted that coupon and haven’t found one with that brand again.

I was honored enough to have a friend let me watch the video she bought after coming to your class, a few weeks ago. I am questioning something that I thought I heard you say, and maybe you can clarify. I thought you may have said that you can stack manufacturer coupons with PG&E coupons???? Aren’t the PG&E coupons the ones that come out at the end of the month? I thought those were manufacturer coupons??? Somewhere, I think I misunderstood…. Can you help me with that one?? Thank You and your video was AWESOME. I will try to hit the next course you have in our area.

ok well you can stack an e coupon with a manufacturers coupon for any item as long as the store allows it but PG has an ecoupon site google it I also use cellfire.com and shortcuts.com if you have a store discount card you can load them to the card works wonders but only put one ecoupon per item plus use a man. coupon hope this helps :)

Kay I work for walmart and we just had our first big extreme couponist just recently. This is what was told to me-They started at midnight, had 10 buggies full of products over 2,000 dollars worth. They didn’t leave until around 8 am that morning and we ended up owing them 13. 87. Her coupons took well over two hours to scan and three cashiers to check her out. So it can be done. I am guess it took a lot of planning and work. Due to the fact that walmart matches ad prices from other stores is your first real savings and then find the coupons you use to add to those savings. Example: Yesterday- we had a display in our store for Velvetta Mac and Cheese shells. Our price was 1.72. Albertsons had theirs on sale for .88 limit 5 then we had a store coupons on the display for .50 off making them .38 cents a box. You might have to make several transactions but…you can’t beat 3.80 cents for 10 boxes. Always look at all your store ads first, we cover a 50 mile radius for ad matching. See what all you can comp at one store (Walmart) and then start your coupon search.

I went to WalMart last Friday and used $140.00 in coupons. I was so thrilled. I went back Saturday to do the rest of my shopping and they would only take one coupon per product. I was really upset! So – what is the deal with WalMart? Do they or don’t they accept more than one coupon per item or not???

Reply

Pam September 28, 2011 at 9:36 pm

actually Cindy I am a walmart cashier and we can not turn a coupon away if it matches an item purchased…your cashit must not have wanted to do it and if it is nolt stated on the coupon then we do have to take it!

I have a trapper keeper with rings on both sides, and I use baseball card plastic inserts. I also put dividers so I know what sections my coupons are in. make sure when you clip your coupons you don’t clip the barcode side with the #’s because the store may not take them. Enjoy. Aso when you get more of the same coupons make sure you put them behind so the older expiration date is first.

I had a just a standard 5 tier shelf, and I lost my job when I was pregnant and my husband lost 25% of his income. Those groceries saved us. Now I have more shelves and my husband and kids are learning too. It’s heart breaking when you don’t know what your gonna feed your family and were it’s gonna come from. Once we get our “stock” back up, we will be making a donation to the food bank. Also we help a family that doesn’t know it’s us. It feels good. But I will not judge, for we went without anything for awhile.

Walmart is not the best place for extreme couponing because they don’t double and they don’t have a rewards card or many coupons on their website and they don’t let you use at the same time a store and manufacture coupons. I found that they do allow you to show them a different stores add or coupon and then will match it. Do you have a Krogers, Schnucks, Shop’n’Save, Save a Lot or Family Dollor and/or Dollar Store. They will all allow you to either use both store and manufacture coupons at the same time or the have great sales (10/$10 or Buy One Get One free) that you can also use manufacture coupons too, so you can use two manufacture coupons or even up to 10 manufacture coupons in addition to the the sale. I hope this info helped you. Good Luck!

Janet June 19, 2011 at 10:07 pm

I have found some but I mostly found that a printer is the best way to in addition to the Sunday paper. I am trying to talk our local paper to sell the coupon section alone at a small additional cost after you have a subscription for one year to their paper but as of now they don’t agree with my theory. I keep trying.

coupons do expire but some stores still take them, check store policys usually on their websites. you can only use usually 2 coupons max on each item and only if one is a tore coupon, like target has alot of, and then you can also use a manufacturer coupon as well, but that is it.

I am also looking for fellow couponers in the High Springs, FL area. Zip code is 32643. I know i can get coupons online, the problem that I am running into is that I live in a small town with another small town nearby so theres really only two choices of grocery stores to choose from without driving out of my way into Gainesville for more options, which would be acceptable for me as long as the pay off is worth it. Any tips and help and fellow swappers I can get would be great Thanks!

Reply

ronda June 10, 2011 at 6:29 pm

It may cost up front, but what I do is look at the coupons first and do a random dollar amount to see if it is worth buying. If your saving alot more than the cost of the paper it is well worth it. Also ask friends and family to save for you. You would be amazed how many people say take them, its not worth their time to use them. good luck to you.

Reply

Erica June 22, 2011 at 8:57 pm

I am so amazed to hear people say ” I don’t have time” or ” It’s not worth my time”. My last shopping trip I saves 294.36 . I was upset because I wanted to hit the 300.00 savings. And before all the judges start to judge me, we just donated over 300.00 in retail for the troops, and also help a family who is going through a hard time. So to all people who have loved ones serving or who have served, my family says Thank you. If anyone needs my coupons that I don’t use email me .

I heard that the best way to save or get the items for free like deodorant, shampoo, soap, paper towels, toilet paper and other house hold items other than grocery’s is to get them at cvs or walgreens when they are doing their specials on them. a site called southernsaver.com is awesome because she posts what they have on sale at each store (even grocery stores) and examples on how to get the best deals from them (if you have to do multiple transactions to get the best deals out of them)

If you contact whichever newspaper in your area that has coupon inserts, you can usually have a paper dropped at your door every Sunday, either for a fee, or just the cost of the paper.

Pam June 9, 2011 at 7:49 pm

I hardly ever find any free coupons. We have only one store that doubles coupons, so there is no way to save that kind of money in our area. I’m sure if I lived in a large city where you have several stores to choose from it might be possible. Even with the store card you can’t save that amount.

TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SAVING MONEY AND KEEPING IT IN YOUR PURSE FOR A RAINY DAY/ OR A FUN DAY WITH YOUR CHILDREN…… I am a single parent with 4 children, there father passed away from a brain tumor unexpectedly…
CVS had the Proglide Rasor on sale for 6.99 it was regular 9.99 there was a
4.00 coupon in Sundays Newspaper so that makes it 2.99 and they were doing 3.00 xtra bucks back so, the 4.00 coupon plus the 3.00 xtra bucks is 7.00 and its on sale for 6.99, yes u need to pay the 3.00 up front but u do get it back as soon as u check out… #2… If u have a coupon for Buy 1 get 1 free and the store is doing a sale ( shampoo for instance) its regular7.99 its on sale buy 1 get 1 half off so 2 would cost 7.99+3.50=11.49 now the coupon is 1 free and u have another coupon for 3.00 off you can use both so 7.99 off for the free coupon and because the store is doing buy1 get1 1/2 off the second one that your paying for is only 3.99, and u have a coupon for 3.00 off so now u only pay .49 cents ( and usually if its regular 7.99 they put it on sale and then they do the buy1 get1 1/2 off, I hope this helps everyone understand a little better, if u need help, my email is repogirls1@comcast.net shoot me an email, I would be glad to help…… any parent who saves a dollar, makes it a happier child in my book, good luck, and god bless……

and no u dont have to pay for coupons, simply ask your local stores what they do with the leftover papers, they usually throw them away, and would be more than happy to see them go to good use… And if that dosent work buy 1 of each sunday paper, see which one has more coupons that u like, each week buy that one paper, and if they happen to have many u like buy another, what u will save with 1 coupon pays for the paper believe me…. keep at it, dont give up……good luck

HI, I just recently started couponing more heavily since seeing ‘Extreme Couponing’ on TLC; I had used coupons sporadically in the past but nowhere near the level that I am trying to use them now!! I started about a month ago and my best deal so far was getting $40.23 cents of Ronzoni pasta (14 boxes) and Ragu Pasta Sauce (6 jars) for $6.81 after store card and coupons!!! It is TRULY a high like no other!!! I already get a Sunday Tribune delivered each week, 1st thing in the A.M. I grab my paper and check out the coupons, if I like them, I will go buy 2 more papers as well as grab them from my mother and mother in law as well! I also go on several sites to get more, you can print 2 of each coupon from EVERY computer in your home; I have 3, thus, I can get 6 additional coupons on top of what I clip from my papers. Target.com has a ‘coupon’ choice at the bottom of their home page and Target and Walgreens are great because you can stack coupons, meaning, you can use a Target coupon AND a manufacturers coupon for the same item at the same time, same for Walgreens. Check out, coupons.com, ecoupons.com, redplum.com, smartsource.com, although you will see most are the same coupons each week over and over. GOOD LUCK AND GO GET EM!!!

I am amazed by the extreme couponing goings on and am desperate to learn my family and immediate extended family are in desperate need for help and I have been clipping coupons, bought my printer have done all the right things but have no one to teach me the ropes. I have been in tears because I so desperately need to help my family. When I watch the people on TV abuse the situation it makes me so angry because eventually it will get to a point where the ones who really have need of this it wont be there for us anymore. Please help stop the ones who abuse this and help the ones who have real need.

Reply

Barb June 18, 2011 at 11:43 pm

Tina,
Who decides who’s abusing it? This is a free country and if those who have a lot because they know how to use what they have been given is not abuse. One family is using what they save to send their children to college. I wouldn’t call that abuse. Most of them help others or organizations when there is a disaster. I wouldn’t call that abuse. Learn the system and you can do the same.

TinaH June 22, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Barb, I have watched extreme couponing and I did see some people not donating some of the food they stockpile. I am not the same Tina that you commented to, I fully believe that if the person has the know how to save money then by all means do it, I am new at couponing so I am hoping I have the smarts to do it, but, when I do figure it out, I do plan on helping others by donating. I don’t know for sure what the other Tina means by abuse but it does happen.

Hello Tina,

Many of those people you see have had struggles of their own like you which has inspired them to coupon. Trust me they did not acquire their stockpiles overnight. Couponing takes time and planning. The internet, Sunday paper, and coupon clipping services are all great sources for coupons. However, in addition, I would suggest you create a network of friends who coupon so you can swap coupons. Also, the ads that are delivered to driveways or apartment buildings – you know the ads that people leave laying in their driveway for days or weeks? These ads are free and they contain coupons. I was inspired to begin couponing when I saw an woman from Philadelphia on Extreme Couponing back in October 2010. She had been couponing for 30 years and she said because of couponing she had not paid for deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, or soap among other things in thirty years and that she was able to get out of debt. I thought if she can do it so can I. What a great opportunity to provide for my family and for ministry. Hence, I began couponing about 8 months ago. As a result, I have been able to help my family, donate to local foodbank, share with friends and help other families in need. Here is some advice from one couponer to another: #1 Start small – only buy an item if it is on sale and you have a coupon for it – try to buy between 6 – 10 of an item (if you can) hopefully enough to get you through the next cycle. #2 Coupons come in cycles – if you miss it this time you can catch it the next time around. #3 Don’t throw away your coupons – just because it is not on sale this week does not mean it won’t go on sale – wait it out. The thought of finding sales may seem overwhelming but that’s another reason you need a network of friends. There are several websites that are great resources – they do the leg work for you so you do not have to run all over town trying to track down sales. I live in Ohio and clipshopshare.com is a excellent resource. Email me if you would like more information or help toniedayton@gmail.com

I started couponing about a month ago and i’m sooo addicted. I live in a small town in Texas and i only have a choice of 2 stores to shop at H.E.B and Wal-Mart. They don’t double or triple the coupons but i can stack coupons and they do accept competitors coupons. H.E.B seems to be the one i save more money at because they meal deals where i can stack coupons. I have saved about $60 in one shopping trip @H.E.B and about $30 @Wal-Mart. I print coupons from coupon network and coupons.com most of the time. I just wanted to know if anyone knows where else i might be able to get more coupons, my Sunday paper doesn’t have all the best coupons. Please email me with any info you might have , i am also willing to trade coupons.

Thanks in advance…

Usually when you buy a product, it has a webaddress somewhere on the label, or at least a physical address. Contact the company directly, and ask to be added to their mailing list. Often, that list includes a monthly or bimonthly coupon mailing.

A lot of the stores those people go to have double coupon policies that many other stores don’t. Also, you really have to check the actual coupon and see what it says. Many have restrictions that you can only use it for one. If you look carefully then you can sometimes find coupons that the limits are for 5 or something.

Enid,
Don’t know where you heard that people on Welfare/Food Stamps can’t use coupons. Anyone can use coupons and you would really get your bang for your buck with coupons as you are not taxed or taxed very little with foodstamps. You can really save alot each month using every coupon you can, and if you can get something free or almost free and you don’t use it, get it if you can and give it to someone who will use it. I do this all year, not to the extreme couponing YET, but I make up several laundry baskets filling them up as the year goes on so by Christmas the baskets is full of shampoo, pads, soaps, conditioner, baby wipes, toothpaste, almost anything a family could use. I always give it to family members, neighbors and others in need, and it is usually enough to last for 2-6mos it just depends. It really is a good feeling to do that and no one needs to know that you have very little money invested in items worth $150-$200. Everyone really appreciates it because it is things they have to buy anyway and this saves them so much money. Good Couponing to you and May GOD Bless.

I have been using coupons for years, & found some states allow more then others in combining coupons. I get coupons from everywhere i can. I got a great deal at staples because of planning. I staples i used my military discount, their mailed coupon cards, waited till the day of the sale, & a 20.00 rebate. I then walked out with a 200.00 fax copier HP for 56.00. It took a month to get all my discounts ready for that one day sale. I also get coupons from Can-Am direct marketing Inc. which is for military active & retired. I fill out my order form & send it in – its that simple. Depending on a store’s policy I will usually go to the store which gives me the ability to use multiple coupons at one standing. I usually don’t like those unless it is exactly what i need in small bulk. Couponing was not so restricted years ago, now it seems some coupons help the stores more than the buyers. I am still open to learning more about couponing today, any information is certainly helpful. Happy couponing

I’m an extreme couponer and it has saved me so much money. Just today I purchased almost $600.00 worth of groceries and paid $7.00 The trick is to buy items that are money makers. By that I mean buy items that are under the coupon savings amount. Example: I have a coupon of buy 5 participating products and save $10.00 I buy the cheapest product that is .89 each and have more than 5.00 left over to offset my overall balance. Good luck everyone!!!

Am I just missing the actual coupon, or this is the actual deal mis advertised? It seemed true for many if not all restaruants with that same come on.

Yes but I don’t need 50 of one thing or to keep a stockpile. That is taking advantage of the generosity of the manufacturer from the coupon / savings they offer. I am sure when that company planned out the affect of the coupon they did not plan for people to take advantage of the system by trying to get the item for free.

Amanda,
What about donating the extra items to food pantries, homeless shelters, Salvation Army, etc…. like alot of people already do but don’t brag about it. All these places can use just about anything. So I say about stockpiling, keep enough for your family and keep making those less fortunate families happy in the process, that I imagine you already do. May GOD Bless!!

how is it taking advantage? i live in texas we have had more then a 100 fires this year alone all over the state wat we dont need we donate to the fire station to help those families that lost everything they had. my mom is a single parent i have 5 younger siblings she works fulltime and so do i but we dont bring in nearly enough to keep bills paid food on the table and all the other stuff we need by us buying in bulk like this. my mom only had me and my younger brother but wen my four younger cuzins got tooken by cps just becuz my brother ended up the hospital becuz of an asthma attack she stepped up and fought for 2 years until she finally was able to adopt them. so its not taking advantage its helping familys like us that need the help

On the show, I’ve heard a few extreme couponers talk about getting the sales prices off of websites that monitor sales? Does anyone know of these sites? I’ve tried to google and can not find. I even remember seeing one lady that downloads the sales prices on her iPad, is there an app for monitoring sales prices? Sounds like this is a secret since they only mention every once in a while?

I’ve been looking for coupons but there are no recycling bins where I live and I only find about three or four I use that have coupons. I have gone to a number of websites for the brands I use, but most do not have coupons. Also, there are no stores around where I live that double. Even if I look for sales, the coupons on top of a sale may only save me 50 cents. I would like to know where extreme couponers live where they find a product on sale and then the store doubles a coupon and they get it for free. That sure is not happening where I live. I went to the store yesterday and had only one coupon that I could use. Where can I get coupons that I would really use, on FOOD items that I need. I don’t need 100 bottles of shampoo, deodorant, etc. After I pay my bills, I’m lucky to have $200 for 2 weeks to buy food for 5 people AND gas for the cars to get back and forth to work. The state programs all say we make too much money to qualify for any state help. All I want are some ways to save some money and get enough food to keep my family fed.

call the manufacturer and tell them you buy alot of there products and would like some coupos and they will mail to you. most manufacturers want your business. you buy their product others see or eat it and they buy. so it is a win win for everyone

extreme couponing : (1) make a list of all the supermarkets, superstores and pharmacies around you and go sign up for their loyalty cards.
(2) buy the sunday paper, but don’t just buy one buy a few different ones for ex i live in ny: i buy newsday + nypost not all newpapers carry the same coupons some have more Q’s then others, and always check the inserts before u buy the paper. (3) clip the Q’s you find in the inserts. (4) get a binder and baseball card protector page (i went to staples and got mine). (5) organize your Q’s into catergorys/sections. (5)obtain all the stores from your lists’ weekly circular. (6) compared what is onsale, if you have a Q to match it and get that item for cheap or nothing just pay tx. this is what i do what can also be done is “dumpster diving” go to your neighborhood recycling center and search through their stockpile of thrown out papers for inserts/Q’s, hope this helps.
also get familiar with ur store’s coupon policy . rememerber to be patient sotres will trick u buy putting an item onsale that just had that company release a coupon in the paper. wait for a good sale don’t just run and buy it because Riteaid will give you an upreward. the goal is to pay the store 0000!!!!

How do people go about buying say 700.00 in groceries and only pay about 50.00. I’ve used coupons all my life and I have never been able to do anything this remarkable. How can I do this, and can you help? I live on a fixed income and have 5 people in the house hold all contribute to the monthly bills but I am only left with aprox. 250.00 for the month for groceries. I need help!

sincerely,

PLEASE know that the show is NOT REALITY. Most of those people do NOT save 99% on their grocery bills all of the time. Those “big haul” outings are specially set up for the show using items that are either money makers or particularly good deals for that week – which is why you see them buying such weird stuff like asian noodles and sports drinks. Additionally, many of the REAL couponers know the stores being shopped at and KNOW that the store policies are being either bent or completely broken with the store’s permission. There are very FEW store which allow unlimited double and triple of coupons. REAL couponers are happy to save between 45 – %70% off retail. Do NOT be disappointed if you aren’t saving 80-99%!

This Saturday I bought $200 worth of groceries for only $100. That’s cutting my bill in HALF and nothing to sniff at! The most I’ve saved is 68% – but that is a REALISTIC couponing result if you want to buy something other than sports drinks and antacid!

T im you have several good tips, I’d like to share a few: schools in AL sells discount books and most have food store coupons($5 off $30) Publix in our area is one of the best- they will take a compet coupon and you also us the coupons for the items you purschase BOGO , they are just about free. Please remember
if you are trying to spend only the $30 to us the coupon remember the tax counts towards the $30. And you can stack their coupons. Buying at CVS IS A SYSTEM process, make your first purchas using your coupon and get the rebate and on your next purchase use the rebate coupon, manf coupon and use it on another item that has a rebate. You start out with a small amount of your own money and the rest are dirty cheap. I order the school coupon books all during the year and around June they start cut the price in half. I just ordered 4 books and each book came with $5 OFF $30 for Winn Dixie but Publix accepts them if they are within the mile range in their policy. Which they do in Bham. Hope that helps.

Don’t get offended by this comment but what are you going to do with a 100 bottles of a shampoo?? I don’t think it is smart because most of it will expire before you get to use it and it is just a waste. Think about manufacturer that lost the money giving you that product for free or offering a discount. And then we complaining about recession. However, I use coupons on stuff I know I can use before it goes bad

Wendy October 11, 2011 at 9:35 pm

I’m not so much offended as I am wondering if you have watched Extreme Couponing and seen how many of the couponers on it donate their overstock to food banks, schools, ect. I am very interested in getting started on my own couponing adventure and if I collect 100 bottles of shampoo or 100 of anyother items I will be donating them to my local agencies that are in need. As far as manufacturers money you feel that they might have lost how do you figure that when the price of the mark up on items are anywhere between 300 to 800 %.
Not offended just commenting

I actually just started couponing and have done pretty well:) I have a huge pantry that is starting to get stocked up. so far, i bought 20 boxes of brownie mix, i had a coupon for .40 which doubles, making it .80 and stop and shop had a sale 10 for $10, then i also had a bunch of coupons for toothpaste, .75 off crest, doubled is $1.50…my store had a sale for $1.88…and it was a pack of 2 in one, so i got 40 tubes of toothpaste. i have to do 4 at a time as that is all my store takes in a transaction…at the end of each transaction i got a $2.00 coupon off my next shopping order so i got paid to take the toothpaste! It was sooo awsome! i had a bunch of others too! ANd now, i just got 30 coupons for bix solei razors, they are usually $6.50 a pack, they are on sale this week for $4.39…i have 30 $3.00 coupons, so i am going to buy 30 of them for $1.39 each…it really is a good deal! I actually get most of my coupons off ebay! I dont have to go looking for coupons, or pay for newpapers or do any cutting!!!! it is really a great way to get coupons, i pay like $2.00 for 20 coupons depending on which ones it is, and it includes shipping, so $2.00 for coupons which you will probably get free stuff for is great!:)

I would like to coupon, however, the stores around here, only one coupon, per item, per person, per day……..etc. In other words, if you had a 25 cent coupon on a box of noodles, then you could only buy one box and save 25 cents. There is no where that EVER would double a coupon, and there is no store saver cards. I guess all in all, saving $5 or $10 in an overall shopping trip is better than nothing. But after you see it on TV, it just isnt the same.

I do not have a printer, and do not know how to get started doing this. I am willing to take the time to do this. I shop at Walmart typically because they except coupons from anywhere and they are already pretty cheap. If someone could give me one on one help, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I purchased a binder and baseball card inserts for the coupons, but found that they do not fit in the inserts. How can I manage my coupons with this system? Do I just fold the coupons for the inserts or what? Or are there other inserts, a little bit bigger that I could purchase? Please advise! Also, what is the best and easiest way to collect coupons? Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I use a small 3-ring binder (7 1/4 x 9 1/4”) with plastic sleeves that accommodate most size coupons (the plastic sleeves have 7 holes, but fit nicely in the binder). I live in Willingboro, NJ (not far from Philadelphia), but my co-worker bought the binders and sleeves several months ago at a Staples store in Hamilton, NJ. They also had several types of divider pages and tabs. I organize the sleeves by month using sturdy write-on sticky tabs on the edges of the sleeves that stick out – also available at Staples (you could use the small 1 x 1” post-it notes instead, but they wouldn’t hold up as well for long-term use). I find that many coupons from the newspapers expire within a couple of months, so I plan to buy more sleeves and add “1-5”; “6-10”; etc. for the coupons that expire before the end of the month; I would have four or five sets of these and move them to the beginning of the next appropriate month once they’re empty after the coupons expire. Behind all those sleeves, I have another section with the sleeves for specific store and restaurant coupons (in alphabetical order). You could arrange everything alphabetically by store/restaurant – or by product category – or any other combination you think would work best for the way/how frequently you shop. Another option would be to use separate binders – one for coupons in order by date; another for specific store coupons or product categories, restaurants, etc. Hope this helps. If you have any question, my e-mail address is goldngem44@yahoo.com.

I have couponed for years. However, our local stores will not honor the coupon, or double it, if it is over the cost of the item–i.e., no overages. Also, anything on the “marked down” rack does not qualify for any coupon at all. On all other transactions, they will 2x the value of the coupon (but only at certain times–they will not double all the time), not to exceed $1.00. So living in a smaller town makes it difficult to get the great bargains that you see on television. Also I have had some difficulty in stores taking internet printed coupons. Many stores here will not take them.

Please teach me somebody how to save! My normal grocery bill is $250.00 cash. Unfortunately, that is without the juices, and the produce I get. The total I spend in my monthly grocery bill is $350.00.Please help me better provide for my family, and save more money. I can’t afford to travel, or go on any vacations with my family. What do I need to do step by step please?

Hi Fellow couponers!
I’ve been clipping for many years now and have adjusted my system over the years, but I always end up back to my oversized ‘tool’ box. I use indexed dividers, categorized as much as possible. Then you file the dividers alphabetically! My biggest tip is: Do not be Brand loyal. Be flexible with whatever brands of goods that you can. You’re more likely to get more savings! Good luck & happy $aving!!!

Hi, Im sort of new to this and going full steam ahead as I lost my job from a Hip surgery. Half our income is gone. Time to make Lemonaide from Lemons .
My last adv enture to out grocery store did not allow staking their coupons w/manufacturers. WHY?

What should I do as we are quite a Monopoly up in Maine and many grocery stores are spread out and have the ability to really hike prices. No competition. Even Walmart is far enough away.
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

One new thing that I am new to is the Plus card that you save with and you load coupons onto. My questions is can you use a coupon on top of the loaded coupons at Kroger? Also can anyone tell me where you can extreme coupon the best we have Ingles, Food City, Kroger and Walmart. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!
Are there any couponing groups in Knoxville, TN?

Hi Heidi,
Finally someone in the Knoxville area. I live in the Knoxville area. I’m so excited. I am totally new at this. Maybe we can learn together and exchange coupons that we don’t use with each other. I live in Andersonville, TN ( which is in Big Ridge State Park) off of Norris Freeway). Out of Halls. Do you by any chance know where that is? Where do you live? Also this is really a small world. I was born & raised in St. Louis, Missouri till I was 10 yrs. old. My dad & stepmother lived there until my dad a few years ago. Small small world. Debby

I have never done couponing like this. I was wondering if someone can walk me through the ropes? I desparately need to learn how to do this. I live in East Tennessee. My husband and I are disabled & on an extremely fixed income. I spend so so so much money at the grocery store each week. We are drowning here because of that. I really really want to learn how to do this. It would save us so much money that I am spending now & we really can’t afford it. I literally dread checking out & finding out how much I’ve spent this week ( even though I’ve put alot of things back) HELP!!! Thank you so much. Debby

Erica,
You stated if anyone wanted your unused coupons to email you. I’m sorry I don’t have your email, but I would love to have your coupons you don’t use. I could also send you coupons I don’t use. I am brand new to this, but am spending almost $200.00/per week at the grocery store. I just can’t do it anymore. We are disabled and go in the whole every month. Something has to break & it has to be the groceries. You figure I’m spending $800.00/per month. That is ridiculous and groceries keep going up and up. If you have any tips for me it would be so greatly appreciated. Send me you email address & I’ll email you the coupons I don’t use. My email is: FlaminDebby@aol.com. Oh by the way is their anyone extreme couponing in the Knoxville & surrounding areas, Tennessee area? I would love to learn faster and team up. Thank you so much. Debby

Hi everyone. As you know from reading my two posts I am brand new to this. But I need it desparately. Anyway I will be trying to start this Friday. Which me luck. Altough I know I probably won’t save that much since I don’t have that many coupons. But I will try my best. Also I wanted to say, alot of the sites I was on yesterday had baby item coupons such as: diapers, wipes, food & maybe formula. All by kids are grown and so are my grandkids. If anyone wants me to print them out & mail them to you, send me your email and we can go from there. From reading only half of all of you on this site, I totally agree with having a coupon exchange program. Even if we can’t find some people very close to us, why can’t we still do that & mail them ( as long as they don’t expire of course). It only cost a stamp. Let me know and please wish me luck. I really need it. Thanks Debby
